Li Sum-yuet Happyheart

Li Sum Yuet (also sometimes known professionally by her English name, Happyheart Li) received her BA in Creative Media from the City University of Hong Kong. Her first short film, The Sleeping Paint, was screened as part of the Jockey Club Cine Academy (JCCA) Joint Universities Programme in March 2012. The eight-minute short features a girl who is struggling to find inspiration in her adult life and to reignite the creativity she had as a child. Li’s second film, Flowers With Aphasia (2012), won the Fresh Wave Grand Award and the Best Film (Open Division) Award in the Fresh Wave 2012 International Short Film Festival. The thirty-minute piece is a story about the unlikely friendship between a florist and his customer, a young boy. Both are grieving, and their friendship marks the beginning of the healing process for both of them. The film has since been selected for various international film festivals in 2013, including the 7th Five Flavours Film Festival in Poland, the 15th Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy, and the 5th Pan Asia Film Festival in the United Kingdom. Li has stated in an interview that her initial success has buoyed her confidence and encouraged her to continue building her career in filmmaking. In 2013, she started her career as a script writing assistant.
