Fresh Wave 2012 – International Short Film Festival Closing Ceremony Winners of the Local Competition Section Announced

(3rd Dec, 2012) The 10-day Fresh Wave 2012 – International Short Film Festival organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) successfully concluded with its Closing Ceremony cum Award Gala, which was held on 2 December at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center.

Distinguished guests included Mr Wilfred WONG Ying-wai, Chairman of the HKADC, Mr. Johnnie TO Kei-fung, famous director and Chairman of Film and Media Arts Group of the HKADC, artists Mr. Sean Lau and Mr. Jacky Cheung.

Mr. Wong Ying-wai Wilfred thanked all related parties for their unfailing efforts on Fresh Wave 2012 – International Short Film Festival. Mr. Johnnie To Kei-fung also rounded up with the fruitful results that Fresh Wave has yielded over the past seven years in nourishing local budding filmmakers.

The adjudication panel for the Local Competition Section comprise three film veterans, namely, including Prof. Michael Berry, specializes in Contemporary Chinese Cultural Studies at the Columbia University, Mr. Kam Kwok-leung, famous director and playwright and Dr Ng Chun Hung, Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology, The University of Hong Kong. 26 entries were divided into the Open and Student Divisions. They selected from each division “Best Film”, “Best Creativity”, “Best Script” and “Best Cinematography” awards. These 8 award-winning entries then competed for the grand prize “Fresh Wave Award”, which recognised the most outstanding short film of the year. Adjudicators, in view of the high qualities of the shorts, decided to give “Special Mentions” to two films that did not win any award.

Prof. Berry and Mr. Kam attended the ceremony and presented the “Fresh Wave Award” to Li Sum-yuet, director of Flowers with Aphasia, and the ceremony concluded with the screening of this winning short.
